28-09-2015 - For three weeks in October Knitfab will convert Surface space into an experimental textile factory, a showroom and educational platform, where visitors will learn about textile programming, how to hack and use a knitting machine from the middle of last century to create unique knitted garments, and even knit a scarf of a laptop pocket.

Our guests from Knitic, Tallin, will execute a Brother KH940 knitting machine hack, connect it to the laptop and convert it into the household textile printer via use of their special software. They will also bring parts of their new open-source project - Circular Knitic, a winner of 3d Printing Contest 2015, and fix it together during a workshop

The event also features an exhibition of two artistic projects developed by Knitic using a hacked Brother machine - Spam Poetry and Neuro Knitic.

28.09 at 8:00pm
On Monday, Varvara and Mar from Knitic will give a lecture on the history of textile production, personalisation and decay of household knitting machines, and their rebirth in the hands of hackers and enthusiasts, possible use in artistic projects and the way one can launch a textile startup being a one-man-factory.

29.09-30.09 7:00 - 10:00pm (if you are late, we can wait until 8:00 pm)
Workshop 1: Brother 940 knitting machine hack. Varvara and Mar will show how to hack a Brother machine, connect it to the laptop, and knit using a special open-source software that they have developed to generate patterns and upload them to the machine.

01.10-02.10 7:00 – 10:00pm (if you are late, we can wait until 8:00 pm)
Workshop 2: Circular Knitic machine assembly and use. Circular Knitic consists of parts that can be either laser cut or 3d printed, and all the files for production are available online free of charge, giving everyone an access to this technology. Knitic team will fix a machine together with workshop participants and show them how to use it.

Exhibition is open every day from September 29 to October 14, 1:00pm - 9:00pm weekdays and 3:00pm - 8:00pm on weekends.
